Now you don’t need a credit card to book online AND there is no need to wait for funds to clear. That’s right, you can have a same-day confirmed booking AND pay cash! Here’s how:

If you are 14 years or over and have a New Zealand bank account, open a Pago wallet online here and top it up straight away at a any branch of the ASB Bank.

  • Register for your wallet at www.pago.co.nz
  • Find an ASB Bank branch near you here.
  • Ask the person at the ASB counter to deposit the cash into 12-3456-0900123-022 (the Pago holding account) and
  • Put your Pago wallet name in the particulars field (this is how we know which wallet to put the money into).
  • Now you can go to the nakedbus.com website to book and pay using pago immediately using the money you deposited.

How does nakedbus.com pricing work?

nakedbus.com uses a complex pricing model to offer you the best value long distance bus tickets possible.

However, the concept is simple: the earliest seats are the cheapest; as these are sold the next seats are sold.

We do not divulge how many seats are available and at what prices, as this is commercially sensitive, but you should know that:

  • At least one seat on each bus is sold at $1 (plus booking fee). This is available for any destination so you could travel from Auckland to Wellington for $1 if you book early enough. (Please note that non bus related services may not always start at $1).
  • The system will always offer you the best price currently available
  • The price offered may vary between searches as other passengers book

If there are no more $1 seats available we cannot sell you a $1 seat so please do not ask. If you saw a seat at a particular price and tried to book it later but it wasn’t there, this is because someone else has booked it – again we cannot sell you a seat at the lower price. This is why it pays to book early.

Is the nakedbus.com site secure?

Yes, we use 128 bit security for a completely secure site so you can rest assured that your payment is secure. We use iframes for the payment window, so the padlock and “https” in the address bar, which usually indicate a secure site, do not appear. The iframe page is HTTPS, which is a version of HTTP that includes data encryption for security, but the outside page is not.

If you wish to confirm this, you can open the iframe page outside the frame. To to this in your Firefox browser, right-click on the payment frame, and choose This Frame -> Show Only This Frame, and it looks like this:


I left something on the bus

If you have lost property, use the contact form to tell us what you have lost. Please provide as much detail as possible because at any one time we will have several mobile phones and sunglasses etc.

We will let you know if we find the item.

There will be a charge to return the item to you. This will cover postage and packaging.

Why doesn’t your 0900 number work?

Some phones are barred from calling 0900 numbers (you may be able to make toll calls but not calls to 0900 numbers). In this case it sounds like the number is disconnected or not working.

What to do: Call your phone service provider (Telecom, Vodafone etc) and ask them to remove the 0900 bar.

Please note that you can only call the 0900 number from New Zealand

How do I change my booking?

You are able to change your booking by using the Change Booking Form (red box on the home page). You can do this whether you are a nakedbus.com registered member or not. You must enter your reference number exactly as it appears on your confirmation email, otherwise the system will not be able to recognise your number. Make sure the dashes (-) are in the correct places throughout the reference number and that you’ve not put any spaces.

The change must be made more than 24 hours before the original departure time. It is not possible to change bookings less than 24 hours before departure under any circumstances.
Changes will incur the $1.70 change fee plus any increase in price if the new ticket is more expensive than the older ticket. Refunds are not given if the new ticket price is less than the old ticket price.

When changing your booking, make sure you scroll down and click the button to “pay by credit card” (or “pay by nakedrewards” button) at the end, otherwise your change will not be complete.

You should receive a confirmation email immediately with the details of your change, and your new booking reference. If you do not receive this, check your spam box. If you have not received your confirmation email, send us a message via our contact form with the reference number you were trying to change.

Do I have to change my booking to be picked up or dropped off somewhere different to where I booked?
Yes. Our buses only pick-up/drop-off at the designated stops that you booked for. This is because our buses do not stop at all listed stops - only when people are booked on. If you do not change your booking to the actual stop you wish to be collected from (even when this stop is on the route) you may be missed completely.

How do I change the date?
Once in the change bookings system, if you would like the day either side of your original trip then simply click on the radio button for your preferred day. If you would like a new date that is not one day either side of your original trip then use the booking search form on the left to change the date to the date you would now like to travel on and click “search again”.

How do I change the “from” location so I can be picked up from somewhere else?
Once in the change bookings system go to the booking form to the left and change the location you would like to depart from. This will unload your original journey, so you will also need to select where you’re going to and what date you’d like to travel.Click “search again” and then click on the radio button of the time you’d like to travel (if there is a choice).

How do I change the “to” location so I can be dropped off somewhere else?
Once in the change bookings system go to the booking form to the left and change the location you would like to travel to. This will unload your original travel date, so you will also need to select the date you’d like to travel again. Then click “search again” and then click on the radio button of the time you’d like to travel (if there is a choice).

How do I change my return date only?
Once in the change bookings system your trips are automatically separated out for you. So you simply select the trip that is your return trip and change that.

How do I change details for one passenger from a booking with more than one passenger?
If you have made a booking for more than one person it is not possible to change the booking for one of these people.

Services on Public Holidays

We do not run services on Christmas Day. Most other services run every other day of the year.

To find out whether your service runs on a particular day, please use the booking form with the day you are interested in. The booking form is on the left of the home page.

Can I earn nakedrewards points if I book with an agent?

No. Nakedrewards points can only be awarded if you are logged in under your member username and password and book online.

Can I book a group and get a discount?

No. nakedbus.com already offers� everyone the lowest city to city bus fares in the country so we are not able to discount these any further.

Groups are more than welcome if you can get the number of seats you need on the trips/dates you need, but you will need to book this in the normal way online. Just set ‘Passengers’ to the number you need and have a fun trip together!

Why can you not change bookings less than 24 hours before departure?

We do not:

  • cancel bookings,
  • change bookings less than 24 hours before departure is as follows:

If we did this we would not have time to resell the seats, and if we have too many empty seats we will have to put up the prices - and our goal is to have the lowest possible price - we therefore have to stick to this policy.

Unfortunately there are no exceptions.
